The ADHD glossary

Plain definitions of the words ADHD brains use for what actually happens: time blindness, executive dysfunction, object permanence, waiting mode, the ADHD tax.

Time blindness
Time blindness is difficulty feeling time pass. Where the term comes from, what the research behind it actually shows, and what helps in daily life.
Executive dysfunction
Executive dysfunction explains why you know exactly what to do and still don't start. Which functions are involved, and what makes getting started easier.
Object permanence
Out of sight, out of mind: what the ADHD community means by object permanence, why the borrowed developmental term doesn't fit, and what is actually going on instead.
Waiting mode
An appointment at 4pm, and the entire day is unusable. What waiting mode is, why it happens so reliably with ADHD, and how to get the hours before it back.
ADHD tax
Late fees, the third charging cable, subscriptions you never cancelled. The ADHD tax is the surcharge forgetting adds. What it consists of, and how to lower it.
